14.77 Lakh Taka Robbed from bKash Workers in Tongi; One Injured by Gunfire

In Tongi, Gazipur, gunmen robbed 14.77 lakh taka from a bKash worker while he was transporting money. One worker, Arif (27), was critically injured by gunfire, and another worker, Azad, was also injured in the attack.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Saturday in Anarkali Road under Tongi East Police Station. Police and RAB visited the scene following the report.

Azad said that they had collected 14.77 lakh taka from various agents in the Tongi BSCIC Fakir Market area and were returning to the office at Tongi Bazar Sena Kalyan Bhaban. When they reached an alley near Dr. Nazim Uddin Market on Anarkali Road, several robbers blocked their way. When the workers resisted, the attackers fired two rounds, hitting Arif in the chest and abdomen. Azad was then slashed with a sharp weapon. The assailants fled with the money immediately after the attack.

With help from local residents, both injured workers were taken to Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. Due to the severity of Arif’s injuries, doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Azad received primary medical care at Tongi Hospital.

Nahida Sultana, Assistant Surgeon at Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, said Arif has a gunshot wound on his right side and signs of injury on his left side as well. Considering his condition, he was referred for advanced treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, stated that a bullet casing was recovered from the scene. Legal action is underway, and operations to identify and arrest the robbers are ongoing.
