The India has advised its citizens to leave Iran at the earliest, citing the rapidly changing and volatile situation in the country.
In a statement, the Embassy of India in Tehran urged Indian nationals currently residing in Iran—including students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists—to depart using commercial flights or any available means of transportation. The advisory also called on Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin to exercise maximum caution.
The embassy advised avoiding protest sites and public gatherings, maintaining regular contact with the mission, and closely following updates from local media outlets.
Earlier in January, several European countries—including Italy, Poland, Germany, and Spain—had issued similar advisories asking their citizens to leave Iran. At the time, widespread anti-government protests intensified after Iran’s currency, the rial, sharply depreciated to nearly 144,000 against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, tensions between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program continue to escalate. Two rounds of talks have already taken place, with another meeting scheduled to be held in Geneva on Thursday.
On February 19, US President Donald Trump set a 15-day deadline for reaching what he described as a “meaningful agreement,” warning of consequences should negotiations fail. However, Iranian authorities have reiterated that they will not relinquish their right to uranium enrichment.
Separately, The New York Times reported that Trump is considering military options if diplomatic efforts collapse. Potential targets, according to the report, may include bases of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, nuclear facilities, and ballistic missile infrastructure.
