Four Indian cricketers—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri—have been provisionally suspended over allegations of involvement in corruption. The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) imposed the ban.
An FIR has been filed against them in Guwahati. Until the investigation is concluded, they are barred from participating in any ACA-recognized cricket matches. The suspended players have participated in various levels of cricket in Assam.
The allegations state that the four cricketers allegedly tried to induce some Assam players to engage in corrupt practices during matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy held in Lucknow. The matches in question were played between November 26 and December 8. None of the suspended players are part of the current Assam squad. Details regarding the exact nature of the corruption attempt have not been disclosed.
Shanatan Das, Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, said, “After learning about the allegations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) assisted in the investigation. Assam Cricket has initiated criminal proceedings. It is believed they violated the code of conduct seriously.”
India has recently stepped up efforts to combat corruption in cricket at all levels. The allegations against these four cricketers are part of these ongoing measures. Assam was eliminated in the group stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
